# Create a Scene

> Combine locations, characters, and props into narrative scenes

Scenes are the building blocks of your film's narrative structure. Each scene combines a location with characters and props, representing a story moment or sequence. You'll create multiple shots within each scene to capture different angles and perspectives.

## 5. Create a Scene

> ⚠️ **Prerequisite:** You must create at least one location before you can create a scene.

### Step 1: Enter Scene Details

* From the Scenes page, click **Create New Scene**
* Select a **Location** from the dropdown menu of all locations you've created in your project
* Select **Int** (Interior) or **Ext** (Exterior) to match your location type
* Select the **Time of Day** (Day or Night) for this scene
* (Optional) Add a **Synopsis** describing what happens in this scene

> 💡 **Tip:** Use the location you just created and add the characters who will appear together in this story moment.

### Step 2: Save the Scene

* Click **Save** to create the scene
* Your selected location will appear on the scene page

### Step 3: Add Characters

* From the multi-select character list, choose which characters appear in this scene
* Click **Save** after making your character selections

### Step 4: Add Props *(Independent & Hollywood plans)*

* From the multi-select prop list, choose which props appear in this scene
* Click **Save** after making your prop selections

### Step 5: Create Shots

Once your scene is set up with a location and characters, you're ready to create individual shots:

* From the view scene page, click **"Create Shot"**
* This will add a new shot to your scene and open the Shot Studio
* See the [Shot Studio guide](/tutorial/shot-studio/index) for complete details on working with shots
