# Generate First Frame

> Create the hero still that anchors your shot

Use the Generate First Frame tab to iterate on the look and feel of the shot before moving into motion.

## Workflow

1. Update the shot prompt, lens, and description to match the story beat.
2. Click **Generate First Frame** and review the rendered still in the gallery.
3. Try multiple variations, refining prompts or camera settings between runs.
4. Save the take that best represents your shot before proceeding to video generation.

<Note>
  Each render is stored in the shot history so you can compare versions or revert at any time.
</Note>

### Step 1: Enter Shot Details

* Click **Create New Shot**
* Click **Open Shot**
* Select:
  * **Lens**
  * **Shot Type**
* Add a description of the first frame in ***first frame description***
* Click **Save** to save your progress at any time

### Step 2: Generate First Frame

* Click **Generate First Frame** to create the first image for your shot
* Update the description, lens, or shot type and generate again until you’re happy

> ℹ️ Note: Shot attributes (like lens and shot type) may not be precisely reflected in the image due to current AI limitations — but this will improve over time!

### Choosing a Location View

The shot's location is set by its scene, and by default the location's active image is used as the reference for the first frame. If you've saved multiple [views](../location-studio#saving-views) for that location, you can choose which one to use:

* Enable **show models** (advanced options) to reveal the **Location view** selector
* Pick a saved view, or leave it on **Default (location active image)**

This only changes the reference for this shot, so different shots in the same scene can draw from different views of the location.
