Aesthetics define the visual style and color palette of your film. By applying an aesthetic to your project, you can maintain a consistent look and feel across all your shots, characters, and locations. Automat Studio analyzes reference images to create custom aesthetics that match your artistic vision.
Plan availability: Custom aesthetics are available on the Independent and Hollywood plans. All plans have access to the default aesthetics listed below. Upgrade your plan to unlock custom aesthetics.

Default Aesthetics

All Automat Studio plans include access to these six predefined aesthetics:
  • Pastel Americana — Soft, nostalgic tones inspired by mid-century American design
  • Hand-Drawn — Artistic, illustrated look with sketch-like qualities
  • 90s European Art House — Sophisticated, cinematic style reminiscent of European film movements
  • Digital Animation — Clean, vibrant aesthetic perfect for animated content
  • Dark Academia — Moody, intellectual atmosphere with rich, subdued colors
  • Neon Cyberpunk — Futuristic, high-contrast palette with electric colors and urban edge
You can select any of these defaults when creating a new project, or choose “None” to build your style organically.

Creating a Custom Aesthetic

Custom aesthetics allow you to train Automat Studio on your own visual references, creating a unique style that can be applied across your entire project.

Step 1: Access Aesthetics

  • Click on the Aesthetics icon in the main navigation menu

Step 2: Create New Aesthetic

  • Click “Create New Aesthetic”
  • Upload up to 5 reference images (drag and drop or click to upload)
    • Choose images that represent the visual style, color palette, and mood you want to achieve
    • These can be screenshots, stills from films, photographs, or artwork

Step 3: Process Images

  • Click “Process Images” to analyze your references
  • Automat Studio’s AI will analyze the images and create a custom aesthetic based on:
    • Color palettes and tones
    • Lighting styles
    • Composition patterns
    • Visual mood and atmosphere

Step 4: Use Your Aesthetic

  • Once processed, your new aesthetic will be available in the project creation dropdown
  • Select it when creating a new project, or apply it to existing projects through project settings
💡 Tip: The more consistent your reference images are in style, the more cohesive your resulting aesthetic will be. Choose images that share similar visual qualities for best results.

Applying Aesthetics to Projects

You can set an aesthetic when creating a new project (see Create a Project), or change it later in your project settings. The aesthetic will influence all generated images and videos within that project, helping maintain visual consistency.
